“The feminine fit, cheerful prints, and optimistic spirit of my designs are my contribution to American fashion. In 2001, my rainbow-striped dress, shown on Sex and the City, captured that breathtaking moment when the lights came back on in New York after 9/11. I wanted to celebrate all the vivacious New York women who refused to be intimidated. My rose print and work-wear–inspired designs for Spring 2011 are a continuation of that spirit—femininity and tenacity endures. Likewise, my commitment to saving New York City’s Garment Center is for aspiring designers all over America who, like me, come to New York with nothing more than their determination. I hope that I pass on my legacy of femininity, optimism, and perseverance to my daughter: I want her to always remember that passion and joie de vivre are all that you need.” ~ Nanette Lepore
